Customer Reviews: Convenient Little Reel for BackpackingJuly 26, 2010 Courtney Dietzmann(MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this reel to use with my Shakespeare collapsible rod, for our recent trip to the Boundary Waters (Ely, Mn). The combination was perfect! Solid little reel! I chose this reel based on reviews read online, and because I still have my Zebco reel from my childhood - which is built like a brick ... house. I haven't thoroughly stress-tested this reel, but it gave me absolutely no issues. It functioned flawlessly, even after enduring some scuffs and bumps (because I forgot to position it near the center of my backpack).
This reel is designed for 4lb test, and comes pre-spooled. It's compact and solid, which is great for packing without a full tackle box to protect it.
I have small hands, and found this reel to be quite comfortable. Thus, I imagine it would be quite comfortable for kids as well. Probably not so comfortable for men and big, meaty hands. Although, the release trigger is pretty prominent, so big hands certainly wouldn't struggle with this reel.
I would definitely recommend this reel.
Great Little ReelsJune 30, 2009 M. Adams 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I absolutely love these little Zebco ll Platinums. Fantastic little reel. Smooth and durable. Works great for Slab, I have even caught a few 5 pound channel cats with them without a problem. Great starter reel for kids or ultralight gear for the experienced fisherman. The absolute best thing about these is the price. You can keep two or 3 of these on hand for what you pay for some reels that have similar performance. If you drop it in your boat or on riprap, it is durable enough to take the beating unlike little spinners where you bend the bail and its junk. If you lose it, it is cheap to replace. Of course there are better performance reels out there, but as far as more bang for your buck goes, you can't go wrong with these little Zebco 11PL's.
