With so many different reel types and styles to choose from, you really have a good selection of manufacturers to look at when getting ready to buy your reel or a reel for some one else.
Cost is always a consideration. If your buying your kid their first reel, you probably won't want to spend a lot on it since it's probably going to take a beating and not last very long. I made the mistake of buying my 11 year old daughter a more expensive reel and not only did she lose interest in fishing, but she ruined the reel.
